Letter from the President
Dear Friends,
The mission of the Monticello Business and Professional Association is to "promote and support the businesses of Monticello." We understand that business and community go hand-in-hand. When we work to promote local businesses, we are building a stronger community for everyone in Monticello.
The association provides a monthly forum where members of the business community, village government, school officials, civic organizations and individual supporters can come together and share their ideas and talents to promote our local businesses and the community they serve. Our monthly meeting is a way for members to stay connected, share expertise and develop new ideas to put our community and Monticello businesses in a wider spotlight.
Here are just a few of our projects:
- Our website (www.monticello-wi.com ) promotes Monticello events, businesses and organizations. This project has really taken off this year through our association with GreenCountySpotlight.com. If you have been thninking about creating a web presence for your business, MBPA can help. In 2010 we will provide more training opportunities for members to use this cost effective format for their advertising.
- In 2005 we initiated the Monticello Money project. To date, over $7,000 of Monticello Money has been circulated and used for purchases at member businesses. These are funds kept in our local community.
- We continue to distribute Monticello Welcome Packets and a great business card reference book for people new to our community. The business card book includes cards from 56 member businesses and organizations to make it easy for new residents make the connections they need for local goods and services.
- We promote Monticello in both the Green County and Hidden Valleys publications, a great way to put our community on the tourism map.
- Radio and newspaper advertising highlighting Monticello businesses and events help us to get our positive message to a larger audience.
- MBPA sponsors a community page in the school newsletter which reaches every household in the school district. The Community Page promotes community events held by all of the non-profit organizations of the community.
- A sub-committee of MBPA is the Montesian Gardens. We continue to support and promote this wonderful asset in our community. MBPA recently purchased lights for the new lighted path through the gardens which is now complete.
- We sponsor the annual Community Garage Sale the second weekend in September. This event is great fun for bargain hunters of all ages. Lunch specials at local eateries offer visitors a delicious taste of Monticello.
- Every other year we hold a "roast" to honor someone from the community who has dedicated many their time and talent to help make Monticello a better place.
- We actively participate in Homecoming each year, including an annual float in the parade.
- MBPA offers you a platform to promote your business to others, making you an integral part of making Monticello a better place to live.
Promoting MBPA is often like promoting our community. Many times the activities that happen behind the scenes make the biggest difference. Networking, sharing ideas and taking on projects that benefit businesses and contribute to our quality of life is what we are about. MBPA adds to the vitality of our businesses and our community, but it cannot happen without YOU.
Join us at our monthly meeting the first Wednesday of each month from 12:00-1:00 p.m. our meetings are held either in the high school computer lab or the Monticello Community Center with a delicious catered meal for a contribution of $5. The location of upcoming meetings will be posted on our website and on the Green County community calendar at GreenCountyEvents.com
The importance of your attendance and support cannot be stressed enough. Your membership dues continually promote the businesses of Monticello, but we need more than your financial support. We need you on our team as we promote the business community of Monticello.
Here is a link to this year's membership application which you can mail to the address on the form. Better yet, bring it along when you join us at our next monthly meeting. I hope you decide to step up and actively support the businesses of Monticello.
We look forward to seeing you at future meetings and working with you in the coming year.
Karen Ballin, President
