NOTICE -- VILLAGE OF MONTICELLO

DOWNTOWN BUSINESS OWNERS please be advised that there will be a construction meeting at the Village Hall at 9:00 AM on Thursday, July 29, 2010 PLEASE BE ADVISED THERE WILL BE A CONSTRUCTION MEETING

This meeting is being held to provide information to downtown business owners regarding the North Main Street reconstruction project. Please make arrangements to attend this meeting.

South Monroe Street Construction Update (Updated July,22, 2010)

All concrete work has been completed. Paving on S. Monroe is now complete. The item remaining is landscaping and will commence as time permits but will be completed before the scheduled completion date of October 2010. Access to and from property is now restored.

North Main Street Construction Update

N. Main St. pulverization is completed. The sewer main replacement is underway. Weather permitting, sewermain installation will take approximately 4 weeks followed by watermain replacement which will take approximately 3 weeks. Storm sewer installation will take approximately one week. Pedestrian traffic is available at most times and through vehicular traffic is allowed as available. Parking is not allowed on N. Main St. during construction other than for short drop off or pickup of passengers or for small deliveries. Detour and other construction signs have been placed and signs are out to direct local business patrons to additional parking areas.

Notes on Downtown Parking and Traffic
At a recent meeting of the Village Board, the following issues were discussed and decided upon.

  1. Is parking allowed on Main St. on Sundays? No.
  2. Is parking allowed on Main St. after "construction hours" during the week when there are no longer any construction workers present? No.
  3. Is parking allowed on Main St. on blocks where construction is not actively happening? No.
  4. Are people allowed to drive from E. Lake to the parking lot by way of Main St.? Yes, when available and conditions allow, keeping in mind the possibility of on-coming construction traffic or other vehicular traffic, since the barricades allow only a narrow opening.
  5. Are people allowed to drive on Main St. in areas where construction is not actively taking place? Again, yes, if crossing Main St. at intersections such as North Ave. and Highland Ave, when available and conditions permit or if a unique situation requires it, such as dropping off an elderly patient to the dentist or for "short" deliveries or other passenger drop offs as noted earlier. In addition, Main St. can be used to get from one intersection to another such as from Highland to North Ave, when conditions permit. Always keep in mind that the construction equipment is large and bulky and smaller vehicles may not be easily visible from such equipment and the road conditions are not suited to easy navigation.
  6. Vehicles parked for any reason not allowed above will be reported immediately and towed and/or ticketed.
  7. Webmaster's Footnote: In discussion with the management of the Bank of Monticello, the following was revealed. The parking lot at the Bank is for customers only during normal banking hours (M-F) but downtown customers may park in the lot on weekends and after 5pm on weekdays. Please note that the side of the parking lot opposite the bank (near Beth Lee Stern's jewerly shop) is reserved for the businesses on that side of the lot.

On Thursday August 5 we will be having a field trip. West Madison Agricultural Research Station at 8502 Mineral Point Road - Verona WI 53593. Meet there at 7PM. This is about 30 minutes from Monticello.

These are the University of Wisconsin Horticultural Demonstration Gardens. "They were created in 1994 to test both old and new cultivars of flowers, vegetables, and fruits for the commercial market, home garden, and landscape use. They are evaluating the selection to determine which will perform best in Southwestern Wisconsin"

So, something for everyone. They have a pamphlet available at the gardens which explain each plant, so bring some paper for note taking.

Do we want to stop for something to eat or drink? Bring your ideas for restaurant selection in the Mineral Point neighborhood. We'll decide there.
